I have been trying to teach my son to practice this quality, with varying degrees of success. We have a pet at home and initially, it was a battle to keep them apart. My son would pinch, slap, pull then immediately snuggle, stroke and try to cuddle my poor cat. Now we may think that gentleness is innate, and in some ways it is. But it really needs to be fostered and nurtured to ensure that it persists, and is maintained without random bursts of excitement and overzealous lunging movements!
